길상면 선두리(船頭里)에 위치한 강화교육원. 해발 330m 길상산 자락에 위치하여 뒤로는 짙푸른 산록이 우거져 있고, 앞에는 출렁이는 서해 바다가 훤하게 내려다 보이는 곳에 있다. 토마스 제퍼슨 의대의 고넬라 학장은 강화교육원을 둘러보곤, ‘원더풀’을 연발하고, 기숙사를 보더니 호텔 수준이라며 감탄했다. 이후에 많은 사람들이 ‘지금까지 본 캠퍼스 중 가장 아름답다’고 찬사를 아끼지 않고 있다...

본 관
강당 : 강당은 본관 2층에 약 200석 규모로 만들어져 많은 인원을 수용할 수 있다. 또한 보호냉방 설비가 잘 갖추어져 있다. 빔 프로젝트 시설도 설치되어 있어서 강의하는 사람들이 여러 가지 자료를 유용하게 쓸 수 있다. 그리고 학생들이 여러 가지 연수나 강연을 들으면서 배운 바를 실천하고 각종 지식을 갖출 수 있는 공간이다.
멀티실 : 멀티실은 본관 1층에 위치하고 있다. 컴퓨터는 약 48대가 구비되어 있다. 학생들은 멀티실에서 다양한 시청각자료를 활용하여 여가를 즐길 뿐만 아니라 수업에 필요한 영상자료를 통해 학점을 높일 수 있다. 또한 이 곳은 학생들이 취업에 관한 정보를 찾거나 다양한 소식을 접하기 위해서 많이 찾는 곳이다.
강의실 : 본관 4층에 2개의 강의실이 있다. 여기서 영어연수가 있을 때에는 영어 강의를 듣거나 토익시험을 치면서 학생들이 교수님들의 강연을 듣고 자신의 꿈을 향해 달려 나갈 수 있는 곳이다. 3층에는 여러 개의 실험실이 있어서 생명과학과 학생들이 실험을 할 수 있는 공간이 마련되어 있다.
체육관
여가시설 : 체육관 안 쪽에 있으며 당구, 포켓볼, 탁구, 배드민턴, 노래방 시설이 갖추어져 있다. 공부를 하다가 잠시 쉬고 싶거나 스트레스를 풀고 싶을 때 학우들과 놀러와 즐겁게 여가를 즐기면서 재충전할 수 있어서 발걸음이 끊이지 않고 있다.
체육관, 헬스장 : 체육관은 본관 옆에 위치한 건물에 있으며 여기서 학생들이 농구나 배드민턴 철봉, 헬스 등 여러 가지 운동을 할 수 있는 시설이 구비되어있다. 공부를 하다가 너무 피곤하거나 학우들끼리 단합을 하고 싶다면 체육관을 찾는 것도 아주 좋을 것이다.
학생회관
식당 : 식당은 학생회관 1층에 위치하고 있다. 영양사들이 학생들의 건강을 생각하여 메뉴를 짜기 때문에 학생들의 급식 만족도는 높다. 메뉴는 항상 식당 앞에 걸려 있으며 식권은 배부하지 않는다. 거기에 기숙하는 모든 사람은 모두 식당이 이용가능하기 때문이다.
도서관 : 도서관은 식당 바로 위층에 자리 잡고 있으면서 필요한 자료를 읽고 대출할 수 있는 자유열람실이다. 최대 7권까지 14일 동안 빌릴 수 있으며 1회 연장이 가능하다. 이용가능한 시간은 약 10시에서 5시 정도까지이다. 여기서 연구자료에 관련되거나 학술정보에 필요한 지식을 찾아볼 수 있다.
기숙사
기숙사, 휴게실 : 방이 총 40개이고 방마다 3명씩 수용할 수 있어 총 120명 정도의 인원이 기숙사에 머무를 수 있다. 방에는 1인용 책상과 침대가 주어지며 화장실이 1개씩 마련되어있다. 아침마다 청소하는 아주머니가 쓰레기통도 비워주고 청소도 해서 아주 청결하게 유지되고 있다. 기숙사 한편에는 tv와 원탁상과 자판기, 정수기 등이 설치되어 있어서 학생들이 공부하다 지칠 때 휴식을 취할 수 있는 공간이 마련되어 있다. 또한 휴게실 한편에는 세탁기와 건조기가 있어 학생들의 편의를 제공하고 있다.
강화교육원 주변의 소문난 삼거리
볼거리·먹거리·놀거리
선두리선착장, 포구 활어시장 : 선두리선착장은 강화교육원에서 걸어서 15분 정도 거리에 위치하고 있다. 그곳에선 고기잡이를 끝낸 배들이 줄지어 선박되어 있는 모습을 볼 수 있다. 또한 포구 활어시장은 선착장 바로 옆에 위치하고 있기 때문에 싱싱한 회를 저렴하게 먹을 수 있다.
갯벌체험 : 갯벌을 강화교육원 바로 앞에 있다. 밀물일 때 언제든 나가서 갯벌 체험을 할 수 있다. 갯벌에는 다양한 조개와 게들이 살고 있기 때문에 잡고, 보는 즐거움을 맛볼 수 있다. 그러나 서해안은 조수간만의 차가 크기 때문에 물이 들어 온다고 생각할 때 바로 나가야 한다.
동막해수욕장 : 마니산 남단에 위치한 동막 해변은 넓은 백사장을 울창한 노송이 둘러싸고 있어 천혜의 자연환경을 자랑하고 있다. 세계 4대 갯벌 중 하나인 동막 해변은 무려 1,800만평에 이르며 게, 조개잡이, 머드팩 놀이 등 갯벌체험이 가능한 곳이다.
테마 펜션 : 강화교육원에서 밖을 내다보면 테마 펜션들이 줄지어 있는 모습을 볼 수 있다. 펜션마다 거꾸로 펜션, 풍차펜션 등 테마를 정해놓고 그 테마에 맞는 다양한 프로그램을 손님들에게 제공하고 있다.
전등사 : 전등사는 강화군 길상면 온수리의 정족산에 위치한 사찰이다. 정족산성 안에 자리잡고 있으며, 대웅전, 약사전, 범종 등 대한민국의 보물이 있다. 경내에 조선왕조실록을 보관하던 정족산 사고가 있다.
초지진 : 초지진은 성곽의 둘레가 500m도 안되는 작은 규모의 방어시설이지만, 조선말기 서해에서 한양으로 향하는 적군의 침략을 저지하는 군사적 요충지이다. 병인양요와 신미양요의 아픔이 서려있다.
석모도 : 강화에서 배를 타고 1.5km 들어가면, 부근의 산림과 어울려 절경을 이루는 석모도를 발견할 수 있다. 영화 ‘시월애’의 촬영 장소였을 뿐만 아니라, 눈썹바위에서 본 절경이 멋있어 사람들의 발걸음이 끊이지 않고 있다.
마니산 : 백두산과 한라산의 중간 지점에 위치한 해발고도 469.4m의 산으로, 강화도에서 가장 높다. 정상에 오르면 경기만과 영종도 주변의 섬들을 한 눈에 볼 수 있다. 단군 왕검이 하늘에 제사를 지냈다는 참성단(사적 136호)이 있다.
강화고인돌 : 강화군에는 고려산 기슭을 따라 120여 기의 고인돌이 분포하고 있다. 여기에는 길이 7.1m, 높이 2.6m의 우리나라 최대의 북방식 고인돌이 있으며 우리나라 고인돌의 평균 분포고도보다 높은 해발 100m-200m까지 고인돌이 있다.
